Development Of Gears
Oct 18, 2018

In 1824, British J. Wright began using a finger milling cutter to process the bevel gears for clocks. The 1865 European clock maker Potts created the method of using a planer to shape the bevel gears by imitation. In 1884, H. Bilgram of the United States first used a single-edged planer to cut bevel gears by the exhibition. In 1898, J.E Gleason of the United States invented the milling of spiral bevel gears by using a rotating end-face milling cutter. At the beginning of 20th century, the rapid development of automobile industry, the manufacture of bevel gears for rear axle drive of automobile has promoted the development of bevel gear processing technology. In 1923, Germany's Klingelnberg company pioneered the use of conical hob hobbing of quasi-involute bevel gears (i.e. the Palloid method), also known as the Clingen hobbing method. In 1944, the Swiss company pioneered the use of end-face milling cutters for the extension of the external cycloidal bevel gears (i.e., the Elloid method), also known as the Oerlikon milling gear method. In order to adapt to the precision machining of hardened bevel gears, the 40 's the company developed the bevel gear grinding honing tooth technology.

The 60 's Klingelnberg company developed the so-called Cyclo Palloid method with end face milling cutter to extend the external cycloidal bevel gear, also called Clingen milling tooth method, replacing the original Palloid method. The chip-free processing technology for gears began in 18th century, when the European clock maker had used gear-shaped tools to correct the tooth profile of the clock gear. In 1899, o.j Bill of America created the process of finishing bevel gears with cold extruding method. In early 20th century, British H.N Anderson pioneered hot-rolled gears. In 1951, the United States, H. Ernst and B. Grob, studied the successful cold rolling gear process. In the 50 's, the federal German study succeeded in precision forging gears. After the 60 's, the method of powder metallurgy, powder forging and precision blanking gears was developed.
