Main types of cast steel
Oct 19, 2018

Cast steel is based on iron, carbon as the main element of the alloy, carbon content 0-2%.

Cast steel is divided into cast carbon steel, casting low-alloy steel and cast special steels 3 categories. ① cast carbon steel. Cast steel with carbon as the main alloying element and containing a small amount of other elements. Carbon less than 0.2% for the casting of low carbon steel, carbon 0.2%~0.5% for the casting of medium carbon steels, containing more than 0.5% is the casting of high carbon steels. With the increase of carbon content, the strength of cast carbon steel increases and the hardness increases.

Cast carbon steel has a high strength, plasticity and toughness, low cost, in heavy machinery used in the manufacture of large-load parts, such as rolling mill racks, hydraulic press base, etc. in the railway vehicles used to create a large force and withstand the impact of the parts such as pillow, side frame, wheel and hook and so on. ② cast low alloy steel. Cast steel containing manganese, chromium, copper and other alloying elements. The total amount of alloying elements is generally less than 5%, has a large impact toughness, and can obtain better mechanical properties through heat treatment.

Casting low-alloy steel has better performance than carbon steels, which can reduce part quality and improve service life. ③ cast Special steel. Alloy cast steel, which is refined to suit special needs, has a wide variety, often containing one or more high-volume alloying elements to obtain a particular performance.

For example, high manganese steel containing manganese 11%~14% withstand impact wear, more used in mining machinery, engineering machinery wear-resistant parts, chromium or chromium nickel as the main alloying elements of various stainless steel, used in corrosive or more than 650 ℃ high temperature conditions of the parts, such as chemical valve body, pump, container or large capacity power station turbine shell.
